10 Pieces of Advice for New Runners

1. Run the Way that Suits You Best

You’re much more likely to stick to your exercise routine if it’s something that you enjoy. That’s why it’s important to find the running style that you like most. Whether it’s running in the park, road running, trail running, or just running on a treadmill at home, there are plenty of forms of running for you to discover.

2. Learn the Correct Running Form

Learning the correct posture and form will maximize your running performance, as well as making you feel more comfortable and confident. To learn, you can join a running community or class, personal trainer, or simply ask our staff. Just visit the running department of any Decathlon Thailand store.

3. Buy a Good Pair of Running Shoes

4. Join a Local Running Group

If you need some extra motivation, join a local running group. That way, you’ll always have some buddies to run with. You can cheer each other on when you get tired, and celebrate your success together.

5. Pace Yourself

Don’t go too fast too soon. It can be difficult, especially when you’re eager to get started, but your body will thank you for it. If you don’t pace yourself, you’ll get tired too quickly, lose motivation, and might even injure yourself. It’s much better to take it slow and steady. That way, you’ll be able to run for longer.

Explore New Routes Running Beginners

6. Explore New Routes

One of the most exciting things about running is exploring the great outdoors. It doesn’t have to mean running the same boring routes every day. Keep things interesting by discovering new routes in your area.

7. Stay Hydrated

Hydration is essential. At Decathlon, we make it easy by providing hydration packs, belts, and running water bottles that are easy to hold while you run. As you sweat, you lose not only water from your body, but also electrolytes. It’s important to replace them by drinking sports drinks or electrolyte powders after long runs.

8. Prioritise Recovery

No matter how addicted you are to running, rest days are essential. Make sure to take time out of your weekly routine for recovery. This isn’t just about resting. You can also do active recovery with mobility exercises, swimming, yoga or even a massage.

Running Beginners Warm Up

9. Always Warm Up First

Don’t forget to warm up before every run with some stretching, walking and other exercises. This helps to get your heart rate up and your blood circulation going. Increasing blood flow to your muscles increases their elasticity, getting them ready for a workout. That way, you’ll be less likely to injure yourself during your run.

10. Cross Train for Better Performance

Cross training is important for runners, not only to take your performance to the next level, but also to prevent injury. By building strength and mobility, you can significantly reduce your risk of injury. Try adding some running-specific strength training into your routine.

Get Geared Up for Running

As well as the right knowledge, you’ll also need the right gear. As well as making running more convenient, it will also keep you cool and comfortable.
You’ll need breathable running clothes that wick away sweat, a running belt to store your phone and other belongings, running socks to reduce chafing and irritation, and much more.
